Boat set's sail

Tuesday 5 July 2011

So, this is it?
The day has finally arrived, the day I leave England on my motorbike to travel overland to Syria.

Once all of the goodbye's are said and done I make my way to Dover and onto the P&O ferry (which of course does not have any sails.. that was added for dramatic effect). As I arrived in Calais at 5pm I didn't want to do any serious riding but instead find somewhere to camp up for the night and settle myself into the 'camping rough' lifestyle.

After half an hour of riding along the highway I pull off. The very first frenchman I meet: I decide to have a chat with and he instantly invites me to pitch up my tent in his back garden. He was off to a meeting and so arranged for his daughter to drive to my location so that I could follow her back to his house.
Tucked away in the countryside, lies his beautiful house complete with swimming pool, quad bikes, 6 horses (one for each of the family), stables, huge garden and tons of land etc etc etc... Dinner with Pierre's family was a great start to what I hope will be a great trip!
